FVISEM - Office simulation - GB
Computerprogramme for an independent office simulation
FVISEM is a computerprogramme for office simulations: the processing of buying and selling-orders, offers; the administration of mail and staff.
The programme consists of 2 parts: the Simulation house where the pupils work and the Board. The teacher controls the Board; most functions are handled automatically.
The Simulation house
* Reception
* Warehouse
* Invoice
* Buying
* Check
* Selling
* Forwarding
* Staffing matters
* Administration
From the Board the orders enter the simulation house by way of Reception. Reception provides all departments with work.
Each department carries out activities with the help of accompanying scripts. The departments are dependent on each other;
meaning that work progresses from one section to another and mistakes will carry on to other departments
In the simulation house amounts and percentages are not calculated automatically; the student must enter these themselves.
The program will check the students work for accuracy.
At the end of a work meeting (simulation day) the documents made by the students and sent to customers or suppliers are checked automatically by the computer programme.
The Board
* Customers
* Suppliers
* Forwarding Company
* Bank
* Business Union
* Inland Revenue
* Insurance Office
* Telephone Company
The components of the Board operate nearly completely automatically.
At the request of the teacher customers send orders and/or offer requests by mail or by e-mail to the simulation house.
The students are expected to react and process them correctly.
If the student makes a mistake they will be informed of it by Check or the Board where upon they will have the opportunity to
correct the mistake. The document is then submitted digitally and checked for mistakes again.
This process repeats until the client or supplier receives a correct document digitally. Working of FVISEM in short
The teacher generates orders from customers for the simulation house and puts these documents in the mail tray of Reception.
Reception enters the documents in incoming mail and distributes the documents to the various departments.
The departments carry out scripted activities and produce outgoing mail, such as order confirmations, way-bills and invoices.
These documents are digitally checked for accuracy by Check and also by the Board. The Board knows which order a customer
has placed and therefore knows what the order confirmation, way-bill or invoice should look like.
Characteristics
* Installation of FVISEM should preferably be done on a server.
Digital check (and fiatting) by Check is not possible in stand-alone installations.
* The simulation is closed; everything is built in. Orders you have generated you can have phoned in or faxed.
* The work students have to do at the departments can be carried out manually as well as by computer.
The intention is that in this way they achieve understanding (and confidence) in automatic way of processing of data.
* For the teacher it is possible to compare (among other things) manually completed customer cards with those in the computer.
* There is no correction work for the teacher; the computer checks everything. The fact that departments are dependent on each
other produces in itself, certainly in the beginning, enough work for the works manager besides the support in content.
Learning effects
Not only will students learn the skills required to work efficiently in the various departments; they will also benefit in other aspects im-portant to work well in a team environment as:
* developing working relationships with fellow-students (colleagues) and teacher (works manager)
* fostering an interest in the work, in the simulation house
* dedication, personal initiatives
* sense of responsibility
* co-operation
* etc.
Students will be evaluated in these aspects as well.
Extra facilities
mutual activity
FVISEM contains a special feature which enables to interact with the simulation house of an other school.
the intro-version
FVISEMintro is meant as a preparation for FVISEM. With FVISEMintro it is possible for departments to work independently so that mistakes do not carry on to the next department. Documents produced are checked by the system within the originating department.
With FVISEMintro it is possible, for example, to have all students work in Sales at the same time.
the light-version
Like the intro version, but every field on the screen will be checked immediately.
